By creating this clip, i wanted to show a negative aspect to some of the technology, the flipside to technological advancements allowing people to film anything and upload it, and being able to connect with the world, having everything accesible to anyone.
It is now so easy to record videos, and to distribute them that secrecy is almost impossible to ensure, and this hits the film industry quite hard, as so much money is poured into a film, and leaked footage can affect the entire marketing strategy in place.
Take the Christian Bale clip i used in my piece. A crew member recorded the argument, then leaked it. Millions of people viewed it over youtube, discussed it, used it in their own works etc etc, which were viewed by millions of others, making sure the clip was seen (or heard) almost everywhere.
Not to defend Christian Bale for going off the deep end, but this clip was all the audience heard, as this was all that was leaked of the argument. Who knows what the context was? For both parties, it could have been damaging to their careers. Christian Bale now looks like a psychotic jerk, and the D.P he was screaming at looks like a bit of an idiot, bawled out in front of the entire crew by a big-time movie star.
On the other hand, it also generated a lot of hype, and whipped the media into a frenzy. This clip, however negative it was, made sure that 'Terminator 3' was on everyone's minds, and that everyone was talking about it.
Anything on the internet can be manipulated to show a different side of the story. The availability of footage allows fans to manipulate context of anything, showing something in an increadibly negative, and potentially damaging light.
If your entire marketing strategy was secrecy, how could you be certain that thats possible? Leaked footage is everywhere now, and more difficult to track or to prevent.

I used imovie to edit my piece together, which was extremely frustrating and limiting in terms of editing software. It also meant i had to use a bunch of other software programs, to first download the clips from youtube, then to convert them into files imovie could use, which made the project a lot more time consuming then i had intended.

It also shows how much effort haws to go into the making of a fan clip....and makes me wonder why people bother?

I shot some footage on my Smart Phone , which i included in the peice, then Bluetoothed the files from my phone to the Mac, and uploaded them into imovie, without needing to convert, which i found really good. The footage was also of quite a high qaulity, considering i filmed it on a phone.
I found trawling youtube for clips that i could use really interesting as well. There is so much out there, and so much of it is really crap, a lot of gossip and so much hype.

Putting everything together was a really interesting process, i realized just how much you can affect the tone of something by manipulating footage, and the effect leaked footage can have without context.

This is a faux fan made style leaked footage/ trailer, the likes of what you find on youtube long before any trailers are release.
It starts off with an announcer presenting in a studio, presenting "the newest trailer" from a blockbuster film yet to be released.
We then see images from a variety of sources, mainly harry potter and twilight trailers, to serve as a trailer for the un-named film.
After this, we are shown "behind the scenes footage", using leaked B- Roll footage from blockbuster films (Harry Potter, Underworld etc), these are mixed in with footage from the set of the Year Two short films, recorded on my Smart Phone.
The clip then moves into a presenter announcing gossip of trouble behind the scenes, and shows an audio clip of Christian Bale's angry outburst on the set of Terminator. The presenter then reflects on this and gossips further about the actors, presenting speculation as if it is fact, talking about jealousy and fighting between the actors.

These bags have the mould printed on the bag, not your lunch. No-one will ever steal your lunch again.

A few words about my presentation.

I decided to explore 3D sound,  better known as holophonic sound. The reason was because I found a clip online that gave me amazing surround sound on my 15 dollar headphones. I was quite fascinated, and decided to do some research about this technology.

I do not want to say too much about holophonic sound since I am going to have my presentation on Monday, but if you read this please bring a pair of headphones to the screening. Also remember to charge up your notebook, because my video presentation will be all online.

The process:

I have already written a short synopsis ,the main idea is to shortly explain what holophonic sound is and how it works . I will achieve this with showing examples together with footage from my Smartphone. Also I have got an interview with a south African expert at this specific topic.

I have some pretty amazing examples for everyone to hear, so again ...charge your notebooks and bring headphones!:)

Some of the these shots were really hard to get, and I did not feel like sitting outside the whole day waiting for a helicopter (We editors don't like being outdoors in general)

Many of these shots required help from many of the lovely students at Unitec, and I would like to thank those students who helped my today. Especially A nice little African fellow that goes under the name Gabe.

The next step in the process is the editing. I think this would be a whole new experience for me, I am used to Avis MC were I have all the tools an editor needs. But I found some decent online video tools and going to spend the rest of the evening editing ..online! literally.

Did some research about internet software online. Tried out a few of them, I have to say it is massive step back for me since I am used to Avid MC.

They do the job, and you can create a cut pretty quick and easy.

I am really impressed by this one, it offers many of the same tools found in expensive editing software.  The only bad thing is that you have to pay for the full version .

Still the free version is pretty good.
